INDUSTRIAL SALTS

Industrial salts are used as raw materials for the production of different chemicals. Industrial salts mainly manufacture caustic soda, chlorine, and soda ash in the chemical industry. The Chlor-alkali industry manufactures caustic soda and chlorine by the electrolysis of industrial-grade salt.

Industrial salts are widely employed as an economical option for de-icing roads, platforms, and walkways. Industrial salts can lower the freezing point, thereby melting the ice. De-icing accounts for the second-largest share of the overall industrial salt market. Industrial salts used for de-icing are of the lowest grade with higher impurities levels than those used for other applications. Though industrial salts are inexpensive and are non-toxic, Concerns over the environment and health in specific applications have resulted in a slight decline in their usage. The usage of sodium chloride has resulted in changing the electrolytic balance in plants and trees. The salt is also corrosive, resulting in damage to automotive parts. However, alternatives such as calcium chloride and potassium chloride are expensive and have disadvantages. Innovations such as the use of magnesium chloride liquid along with sodium chloride for improved properties are expected to drive the market for industrial salts in de-icing applications.

 

CHLOR-ALKALI GRADE SALT​

The primary raw material for the membrane Chlor-Alkali process is purified Sodium Chloride. The quality of salt plays an essential role in the proper trouble-free production of Chlorine and Caustic Soda (Sodium Hydroxide). Introducing membrane technology into Chlor-Alkali Electrolysis has increased the demand for quality salt. The quality of Chlor-Alkali Grade used as raw material determines the life of the membrane cells. On the other hand, electricity consumption depends on the salt's level of impurities.

DYES GRADE OF SALT

The Dye Manufacturing Grade of salt is not only used to improve the colour of the dye on different fabrics but is also an essential ingredient in the making of the dyes. Since Khananinternationaltraders is the most credible source of salt, we provide it to most dye manufacturers in Pakistan. There are five grades of salt that Khananinternationaltraders offers to dye manufacturers. Other than the dye manufacturers, we also supply pharmaceutical and food dye manufacturers. We cater to all the specific requirements these dye manufacturers have since the dye they produce is very sensitive to impurities.

EXTRA-PURE AR GRADE (ANALYTICAL-REAGENT)

The Extra-Pure AR Grade of salt is produced with the maximum purity level. It is directed at a purity level that exceeds the international requirements of all pharmacopoeias globally. The AR grade is available in one kg, laboratory-friendly bottles only and is usually used at a laboratory scale for reactive testing purposes, amongst other uses.

FLOSSY SALT

Leather is developed using animal skin and hides. These skins and hides are chemically treated to preserve quality and texture. This process is known as tanning. After going through this process, the leather becomes robust, flexible and able to resist decay. Different animal skins and hides are used to make leather, including horses, cattle, goats, cows, calves, lambs, deer, kangaroos, reptiles, seals and walruses.
Each animal's skin has different characteristics, so the tanning process for each animal's skin is different. The method also changes with the end product's customers' requirements. After the hide or the skin is stripped from the animals, it is salted and dried. This process is called "curing". There are two ways to cure: wet salting and brine-curing. Out of the two, wet-salting is more common since it's faster and easier.

OIL DRILLING GRADE SALT

The central part of the consumption of Khananinternationaltraders’s Oil Drilling Grade Salt is in the export markets due to its premium quality. Exported to numerous countries, the company offers different grades, from PVD to lower-grade salts of 97% purity.

OIL REFINERY GRADE

The Oil Refinery Grade is mainly produced for and supplied to the petrochemical and oil refinery industry. The quality of the salt, along with the size and size distribution, is essential since they are used in oil production and other fuels.
Oil Refinery Grade Salt is a premium product and has to be of high quality that conforms to the buyer’s specifications. In oil refineries, the hydro-desulfurization units for Jet and Diesel fuel need to coalesce and salt dryer when the stripper column is designed with direct stripping steam.
The salt dryer avoids products that are off-specified in water content and appearance.

ROAD DE-ICING/SNOW MELTING SALT

Deicing Salt prevents 90% of road accidents in snow-prone areas during winter. A thin layer of snow sheet on the roads, also known as ‘black ice, is the primary cause of road accidents during the snow season; all of these great uses encourage buying deicing salt in bulk. Each country uses different equipment for dispersing salt on snowed-on roads, our specially formulated Road De-icing salt ensures that the salt is fit for use in salt-dispersing machines and equipment.
A particle size range of 0.15mm and up to a maximum of 6mm (or 8mm in some countries) ensures that the salt does not choke or damage the salt spray machines.

SALT TABLETS FOR WATER SOFTENERS

The PVD salt tablets are also produced in two different qualities: pharmaceutical and food. SPECIAL ULTRA-PURE BROMINE FREE GRADE SALT

For this purpose, the R&D department of the company has designed an indigenous electrode ionization plant to extract impurities providing the customer with the purest of salt. This plant extracts Bromine and has been working smoothly and problem-free since the beginning. The plant has been designed for high inputs of Bromine since raw Brines have a lot of variations.

The production of a Special Ultra-Pure Bromine-Free Grade of salt has only become possible in Pakistan due to the hectic, dedicated, and ambitious efforts of our R&D department. It has taken us more than three years to make this particular grade completely Bromine-free. The Bromine content in our regular Pyrogen-free stages ranges from 10 to 40 ppm.
With time, we have learned more and more about the system. This has made it possible for us to extract impurities other than Bromine. Currently, these impurities are going to waste. The R&D department is researching how we can minimize this waste and convert these impurities into useful and valuable products.

During dyeing, salt is used to extract the dye into the fabric. Salt plays an important role there since it acts as the ionic force that transfers the paint onto the textile. Poor-quality salt gives uneven colour exhaustion, which looks terrible on the fabric. The hardness the salt is causing with its addition into the dye bath is significant. Therefore, the main emphasis is on maintaining the low hardness of salt. The grades of dyeing salt start from hardness of 180 ppm (50 g/l) and go down to zero hardness (any g/l), and in between, there are seven other different qualities.
The hardness alone is not the only factor that impacts the dyeing. The impurities also affect the quality of the dyed fabric or yarn. Since we have expertise in this region, we enjoy a handsome domestic market share and a decades-old export customer that guarantees our high-quality, credible dyeing salt that will not create problems while using it for dyeing purposes.

WATER SOFTENING GRADE SALT

The quality of the salt plays an important part here as well since low-quality salt can spoil the plant and the resins. The water softening technicians know that poor-quality salt can even plug the valves and pipes other than making the polishes wear out before the stipulated time. It has also been observed that salt with very high residues of Sulphates has proven to be detrimental to the equipment.
